The City of Farmer City is seeking talented, experienced and dynamic candidate for the position of Police Chief to join their team. Farmer City is a quiet, stable community of 2,000, located directly on I-74 between Bloomington and Champaign in Central Illinois. The City provides a full range of municipal services. This is a full-time exempt position that oversees the operations and activities of the Police Department. The Chief administers and monitors the department budget; develops long- and short-term goals; establishes policies, procedures and operations for the department; provides technical guidance, performance coaching and evaluations for 5 FTE subordinate personnel; manages code enforcement efforts; and serves as department liaison with the business community, schools and other community stakeholders, among other duties.
Qualifications: Associate’s degree in law enforcement or related field; Bachelor’s Degree preferred. 5-7 years experience in management of municipal law enforcement work or equivalent combination of education and experience. Possess and retain the ability to lawfully possess a firearm. Possess and maintain Certification in the State of Illinois. Valid State of Illinois driver’s license.
Residency: Candidate to reside within 40-mile radius of the City of Farmer City or to establish residence within one year of date of appointment as Chief of Police.
Salary Range: Competitive salary dependent on qualifications; projected to be $62,000-70,000. Competitive benefit package including IMRF, health insurance, vacation and sick leave.
